The Rams are getting there may have been the concesus after last nights draw at St Andrews against a useful Birmingham City side.
Derby in the first half were well organised but again lacked that spark that makes their approach play into meaningful chances.
Had Johnny Rusell or Paul Ince had the courage and conviction to shoot when the opportunity arose the Rams may well have put Birmingham on the back foot. As it was a piece of luck via what looked like two deflections sent a shot from outside the area (take note Rams) was sent spirelling over the Stranded Scott Carson and into the net just before the half time break.
Birmingham are no fools under former Rams Gary Rowett, as their own unbeaten run proves. Derby however are on their own unbeaten run and Paul Clement left the team to stew over their first half performance for four and a half minutes before entering the dressing room and presumably putting things right.
Derby emerged in the second period as a rejuvinated side, Weimann replaced his former Aston Villa team mate Darren Bent, which was met with a chorus of boos from the home side. Bent didn't look too happy with being replaced either, throwing a sweat band to the floor as he left the pitch.
The Rams rallied and came from behind for the third time this season in the league and secured a point with a great goal by the man of the moment Johnny Russell.
Three points looked very much on the cards as the Rams began to dominate play in the second half. Weimann had a deflected shot spin for the bottom corner of the Birmingham net, keeper Thomaz Kuszczak producing an amazing save to push it on to the post when it looked as though the ball would cross the line.
The rate of goal attempts last evening was impressive and an improvement from recent weeks and the Rams just need that vital first win for a boost in confidence and they must surely start to climb the table.
If nothing else it was a very entertaining game for Rams and Brum fans alike.
