DerbyMad: It’s nice to be talking to you in the wake of a victory with Derby having finally got the breaks they deserved last Saturday
George Burley: 3 Games played where I thought we played well in all 3. We got a well-deserved win last Saturday against Ipswich that gave us our first win, which is so important. It’s good seeing that the performance level has been getting better. But for confidence you need to win matches and thankfully we did that.
DM: Psychologically it is important to get that win under your belt isn’t it?
GB: Yes. I think some of the football that we played in the last 2 home games has been Premiership standard for the quality. So we have got to push that on. And certainly it was a cracking game against Ipswich so that will put us in good spirits for our game this weekend.
DM: You were unlucky to take nothing from Leeds but the tale of woe away from home continues, so a chance to put that right at QPR?
GB: I thought we did okay against Leeds. The verdict from most people was that we deserved a draw, but afterwards I said that I thought we could play better. So can we take that on board and compete against Rangers who will make it very difficult. But we will play out brand of football, which we do at home with a little bit more ease than we do away. I’m confident with this squad of players that are working hard together that there is a lot of quality there. So it will be interesting to see if we have come that little bit further against QPR.
DM: With the exposure that the Premiership gets we all had some idea about the threat that Leeds and Leicester offered, but no one knows much about Rangers. What sort of a side are they?
GB: Ian Holloway’s sides are always competitive and will close you down quickly. They had a tremendous result on Saturday against Sunderland. They had the best home record in the Football League last season so it shows you that they are not easy to beat at home. It’s a tight pitch and there is always a good atmosphere there which makes it difficult for the opposition.
DM: Having just won promotion they must have some confidence about them?
GB: I’m sure they will be confident, especially after that result against Sunderland. but we are going into it with confidence and I feel that we have got a quality side who can compete against anybody in this league. If we get it right we can cause anybody problems.
