With Paul Clement just installed as Rams manager it was a surprise to read this morning that Cardiff City plan an audacious attempt to lure the Scottish International to the Cardiff City stadium this closed season.
Cardiff manager Russell Slade has made a list of potential targets and russell features highly on that list. He is known to have had high level talks with Cardiff owner Vincent Tan and a budget has been agreed. Derby County bought Russell two years ago for a fee of £750,000. In his time with the Rams he has attained three Scottish International caps and is expected to feature in the up coming European Championship qualifiers.
Cardiff are looking at Russell primrily as an attacking winger, but Russell can play in most attacking roles on either wing or through the middle, making him a very attractive prospect for any potential buyers.
The Blue birds may have to wait awhile to put in any serious bids as Paul Clement has yet to assess his squad left to him by departing manager Steve McClaren and will not do that until all the squad returns for pre-season training in late June
