Clough looking forward to more loans

The Rams are again struggling to field a competitive side following several loans that have now finished after last nights excellent draw against Championship leaders Newcastle United.

The Rams are looking to extend the loan spell of Leicester pairing of DJ Campbell and Paul Dickov before Saturday's FA Cup match against Millwall. Nigel Clough will be trying to secure Campbell's services until the end of January. He also will look into keeping Paul Dickov, the diminutive striker has proved to be a success at Pride Park during his loan spell.

Clough has indicated that he is looking forward to the loan market opening on January 1st. The statement seems ominous and seems to rule out any players being permanently signed for the Rams during the early part of 2010, something that is a worry to many Rams fans at the moment.

Derby could potentially be without five players for the forthcoming FA Cup game. Jay McEveley will be one player missing after his sending off last night at St James' Park. Robbie Savage is also out for the trip to Millwall after amassing several yellow cards this season.

Loanee Jake Livermore is to return to Tottenham Hotspur following his spell at Derby and no further interest is being taken for the midfielder.

So it looks like Rams supporters only have the possibility of several more loan players coming into the squad until the end of the season. Will this be enough to stave off relegation and is it a sign that Clough will not be able to build a side that are committed to Derby County in the 2010-11 season? Who knows, perhaps the American owners will tell us what the future is for Derby County?

Happy New Year everyone…!
