Rams Director Jill Marples transported the new manager into Moor Farm via helicpoter this morning
A press conference at Moor farm at 11.00am let Derby County supporters know that Billy Davies, former manager of Preston North End, was to take the reigns at Pride Park. It is little over a year since Davies and Preston dumped Derby County out of the Championship Play-off semi finals but the Rams directors are hoping he will again produce a team that will reach the play-offs, or even better.
The scene was pleasing to the eye after scenes of discord during the final desperate months of the previous directorship at Pride Park. The sun shone and fans chatted in excitement of what could be a very productive and successful season for the club.
“Have the directors chosen the right man for the job?” Most people outside Pride Park were convinced we have one of the top young managers in the English game and given a helping hand by the new directorship could well lead Derby County back to the promised land of the Premiership. Director Don Amott asked supporters for their feeling on the appointment as everyone stood expectantly await the arrival of Mr Davies.
The club had asked fans to be outside Pride Park around 12.15pm but it was near 1.00pm when the new manager arrived to cheers and a deluge of young autograph hunters.
After the euphoria of his arrival Davies now faces the realities of putting a club back together again after the unsuccessful three year reign of its former directors. It will not be an easy task and there are many signings to be made before the new season can begin. Hopefully the new squad will be added to in several major places and enable the club to forget about relegation battles and concentrate on promotion.
All at Derby County Mad wish Billy Davies the best of luck in his new appointment.
