George Burley looks like he has captured his first signing as Derby County Manager. The Rams are said to be signing 30-year-old David Walton from Crewe Alexandria.

It is hoped that David will pass a precautionary medical on Tuesday (24th June) and hopefully sign on the 1st July

Central defender Walton should add some stability to an area that has been crying out for an experienced player for some time. The Rams management team hope that six foot two inch tall Walton lives up to his nickname of “The General” and takes command of the Rams rear guard.

Walton will arrive at Pride Park on a Boseman free transfer after his contract with the Railwaymen runs out at the end of June. Crewe brought Walton from Shrewsbury town in 1997. It cost the Railwaymen a club record fee of £700,000. David then went on to spend six years at the club and record 129 appearances for them.

George Burley now hopes to bring in or persuade a couple of player currently out of contract before the new season begins on August 9th.
