Half term report from you the fans

Last updated : 30 December 2007 By Rams Mad Editor
Well we asked for your views on how the season has progressed and here are a few of your replies and our own Derby County Mad view of the first half of the Premiership season.

Bill Doyle of Chelleston had this to say:
I think Derby will do far better as the season unfolds. We are chasing Wigan. sunderland Bimingham and Middlesborough And we will catch_up and overhall all three
Up the Rams!

Mark Springer follows up with a more comprehensive:
The mass excitement and build up to play off's is clear in my mind. Pearson getting inside the defender , the ball hitting the back of the net (DULL NUMBNESS SUCH JUBILATION AND NO WORDS) #$#@ !!!!!!!!!!!

The season starts well with the beating of Forest and the winning of the first Brian Clough trophy
The season started with a trophy against our favorite rivals . The stature surrounding the Brian Clough trophy between the two sides is huge and for those who do not follow our history's well it would be lost . For me come on Ram's!!!! sheer delight.

The premiership started with a bang, I ran around telling everyone we were in the top half of the league . knowing full well stress full times were ahead but you know what I reveled in our moment and there will be more to come.

The season has been tough and has been more catch up than anything else. Players like Kenwyn Jones would certainly have been an asset up front and Billy was battling to sign or attract people of that caliber who do not have the confidence to build a winning team through there own efforts! Yes to play under Roy Keen and his influence must be mind blowing but you still have to do it yourself. I felt a little disappointed we lost him .

We have fended of the best and every game I have watched we have improved , that leap of faith to the next level, and I have no doubt in my mind we will hold our own with the nucleus of players we have . I was however sorry to see Billy go and I am sure that all our Ram mad supporters wish him all the very best.

Paul Jewell has bitten of a lot but he has coached at this level and has got what it takes to educate and grow our mental belief and competitiveness .WATCH THIS SPACE

A guy who has been watching the rams for half a century is Trevor Gilmore and he writes:
Hi everyone
Just a few lines on Derby, I keep supporting them rain or shine been doing that for fifty years.Wembley what a day I threw my stick in the air and it landed through a garage window next door, a lot of explaining to do.Billy Davies loved the guy, never had so much exitement for years, whatever his reasons for leaving I thank him.Paul Jewell looks a good manager well up for it give him time and he will succeed.Whatever the outcome this season I will still purchase my season ticket because I just love football. Derby football that is.

Derby County Mad: Our own take on the half season is mixed. The promise of playing teams of the calibre of Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea was a real breath of fresh air after five seasons in the Championship, and most of that battling against relegation.

The reality set in as we started the season, albe it well with a draw against Portsmouth on the opening day of the season.

We were unaware of the humiliations yet to come, maybe more effort and cash needed to be pumped into the Rams side before the season started. Many of us however didn't realise that payments to the banks brought about by the promotion to the Premiership and bonus payments to the players soon ate into the £60m payday at Wembley.

Twelve million pounds was spent on players but with £3.5m record signing Rob Earnshaw inexplicably seemingly unable to get a starting place in the Rams struggling squad, it was inevitable that fingers would be pointed at manager Billy Davies, was he good enough to manage the side in the Premiership? Had he bought well? Was he to be given money to strengthen?…..Well Davies didn't get the chance to find out.

Billy Davies
Billy Davies was a victim of his own success
After losses of 6-0, 5-0, 4-0 etc the decision was made and Davies was replaced.

Trevor Birch
Trevor Birch removed under mysterious circumstances
Davies wasn't the last of the "goings" or the comings at Pride Park during the first half of this season. Mystery surrounded the of new CEO Trevor Birch, or at least the way in which he left the club with immediate effect after just a short time at Pride Park.

Rams Chairman stepped down to allow Huddersfield supporter, Adam Pearson to become the new Chairman of Derby County, something that we as supporters had strived to not have happen again after the mess Mr's Keith, Mackenzie, Mackay had left the club in just over a year earlier. Time will tell if it was a good or bad appointment but with the rumour of multi million pound American investors being found by Adam Pearson, he may well be just what the Rams were looking for.

Well on the pitch the Rams need to improve if any small glimmer of hope of avoiding relegation is to happen this season. To be honest we look like a club that is getting ready for the 2008-09 season, which will almost certainly be in the Championship. With Paul Jewell however, we have a manager that has the record and qualities needed to get the Rams back into the Premiership at the first time of asking.

Tighten your belts for the next five months of the Derby County FC roller coaster ride....

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL DERBY COUNTY SUPPORTERS
