The excuse of having players out injured may be wearing a bit thin for most Rams fans but Thursday saw one of the most bizarre injuries to a squad player yet this season.
Saul Deeney, the Rams reserve goalkeeper travelled with the team for Friday’s away game at the Liberty Stadium Swansea. Late on Thursday night the whole of the Rams squad had to vacate the hotel due to a fire drill. As the players mingled outside of the hotel in driving rain Deeney slipped over on the wet surface spraining his ankle. Deeney was in pain immediately but an x-ray in Swansea did no show up anything breaks but the resulting damage may keep the goalkeeper out of the squad for up to six weeks. A further x-ray will be needed in Derby during next week to give a new evaluation of the ankle. The Rams had to call on number three keeper, twenty year old Ross Atkin for the game against Swansea City.
