Derby County have had some discouraging news on the first day of 2009. Jordan Stewart has been handed a three match ban after being sent off on Sunday for a high two footed challenge.
The red card was instant and deservedly so for the shoulder high challenge. This means Stewart will miss this weekends FA Cup clash with Forest Green Rovers and also the first leg of the Carling Cup Semi Final against Manchester United later next week, as well as the Cardiff City away league match on January 10th.
The ban couldn't have come at a worse time for Caretaker manager Chris Hutchings. He takes over the Rams hot seat after Paul Jewell resigned his position after Sunday's defeat against Ipswich.
Hutchings will be hoping a potential bananna skin is avoided at non league Forest Green but many pundits are predicting an upset as the Rams try to re-group and find their winning ways again.
