The two penalties in question were, what looked like a certain penalty not given, when Wolves were 2-1 up and the missed penalty by Wolves in the second minute of time added on that would have draw the game 3-3.
A draw would still have seen the Rams demoted to third position in the Championship table but on the same number of points as Birmingham and Sunderland just a point ahead at the top of the table. The blues with the win and three points now sit on the top of the Championship, Sunderland in second place and the Rams now out of the automatic promotion places yet again, in third.
Hard as Wolves tried, once again fate and refereeing decisions robbed them and the Rams of valuable points. The referee being Graham Laws.
The Rams now don't play again before both Birmingham and Sunderland have played their penultimate games of the season. If Sunderland should beat Burnley on Friday evening and Birmingham beat Sheffield Wednesday the following day, the Rams would be four pints behind Sunderland and five behind Birmingham, with a tricky away game to come at Crystal Palace for the Rams to remain in the race and just one and two points off the automatic promotion places. Derby play Crystal Palace next Sunday with a 1.30pm kick off.
All the final matches in the Championship take place on Sunday 6th May with a 1.30pm kick-off. The matches are:
DERBY COUNTY v LEEDS UNITED
LUTON v SUNDERLAND
PRESTON v BIRMINGHAM CITY
