Rams fan and author finds earliest England team photo

Peter Seedon (51) is well known for his writing prowess and especially for his book "Steve Bloomer, The story of football's first Superstar" has come across the oldest known photograph of the England team.The grainy black and white photograph shows the side in 1876. The earliest up to the discover was one taken in 1893. It is a huge find and with the gap of 17 years making it even more remarkable.
Seedon was actually researching Rams legend Steve Bloomer when he came across the photograph. He was in this local Library looking through the microfiles and found the photograph printed in the Derbyshire Football express of 1926.

The actual picture was sent to the paper in 1926 by another local footballer Edgar field, who was actually in the photograph having played for England and was himself a Derby man.FA are pleased to have been shown the latest historical picture of the National team but still believe that a picture of the very first game played by England in 1875 may yet still be out there somewhere...
