Luke Varney will be a Portsmouth player by the end of the week according to sources. The Rams have accepted a fee of over £750,000 for the 28 year-old striker and it is thought just the formalities now remain before Luke heads down to Fratton Park.
Varney has been left out on the side-lines last season, and spent most of it out on loan to THEN Premiership side Blackpool. It was thought the tangerines would table a bid for Varney after a successful spell at the seaside club but relegation made the situation different.
Luke scored five Premiership goals whilst with Blackpool in 12 outings but he didn’t fit in with Nigel Clough’s plans for the Rams after being brought to the club by former manager Paul Jewell.
