Nigel Clough is looking to strengthen his midfield for next season and has been running the rule over 20 year-old Michael Jacobs.
Jacobs has scored seven goals from midfield this season for Northampton and has played over 48 games in the season. Jaobs is out of contract during the summer but Derby County will have to pay a fee, as the player is only 20 years old and has been at the club since he was 10 years of age.
Further reports today suggest that 'a' Championship club has had an approach rejected by Northampton but it is not yet clear if that club was the Rams.
The Cobblers also haven't abandoned hope of Jacobs accepting a new contract and staying with Northampton but their manager has further stirred the pot by announcing that there has been interest in the young midfielder from Premiership clubs.
With the season not yet completed we must now watch and wait to see who comes and goes at Pride Park...
