Rams look to new technology to stay fit

IDXA SCANNERThe Rams should be in peak physical fitness for the start of next season thanks to a new initiative with the University of Derby.

All of the Derby County first team squad will undergo a scan on the next generation idXA scanner. This state of the art scanner is one of only 15 in the Country and will ascertain the muscle development of the players following pre-season training. Another scan will be used mid season to again see if players are developing. The scanner also determines bone density, a vital tool for the clubs strength and conditioning coaches. Steve Haines, head coach in strength and conditioning said “we see the equipment as the gold standard and are delighted to be involved”.

The University has loaned the idXA scanner from GE Health and also see the joint venture as beneficial to its students, as well as providing Derby County with knowledge concerning their players development and fitness.

The Rams hope that pin pointing any areas a player should be looking to develop will give them an edge in the very competitive Championship next season. Dr Peter Jones will also benefit the Rams by running workshops through out the season to give advice to players on their nutrition an general health.

Derby County hope that by taking these steps the injury crisis’ that have dogged the Rams in recent months will ease and players will stay fitter and injury free for longer periods...
