After the sale of Rams star Will Hughes Derby County are rumoured to be looking at Glen Whelan the 33 year-old midfielder from Stoke City.
Reports in the Bear Pit, a channel on Facebook for Stoke City fans have said the Rams put a bid of £1m in for the Republic of Ireland International.
Whelan was bought by Stoke for £500,000 from Sheffield Wednesday in 2008 and despite repeated efforts to displace him in the Stoke line up he has shown his considerable talent and kept his place. Experience in the Premiership and Championship with Stoke means he could be an ideal replacement for Hughes.
He has played 291 times for Stoke as well as numerous games from U16 to the full International side with the Republic.
With the Rams reporting back for pre-season training at the end of the month we will need to wait and see if the reports are true.
