Chris Porter celebrates a goal for Motherwell, now he hopes to do the same for Derby County
Derby County despite rumours of financial difficulty have dipped into the transfer market and have a coupe after signing Motherwell leading scorer Chris Porter.

Porter who 25 years of age and was born in Wigan and started his football career with Bury, playing over 71 games for them and scoring 18 goals between 2003 and 2005. He then moved on to fellow Lancashire club Oldham Athletic again scoring well with 28 goals in just 66 appearances. Porter has shown he can score at the highest level whilst at Motherwell, scoring 18 goals during last season and is currently leading scorer with 11 in the SPL.

The Rams have snatched Porter away from Cardiff City at the last moment. A fee rumoured to be £425,000 had been agreed between the clubs but Porter hung on for a better offer, which it looks as though the Rams provided. Motherwell manager Mark McGee had pleaded with Porter to accept the Cardiff offer as he sees them as a Premiership prospect either this season or next.

Porter who is 6ft 1 inch tall, is seen by Nigel Clough as a player to play with and off established Rams strikers in Hulse and Ellington, but no mention of Luke Varney and it is not clear if his loan deal will now result in a permanent place with Derby...
