Derby County and Paul Jewell start their re-structuring of the Derby County set up by announcing a new Academy manager. The new appointment sees Everton's head of youth recruitment officer, Phil Cannon take over from Kevin Thelwell.

Cannon is due to take up his position as Academy chief in a few weeks time and is recognised within the game as a very good talent spotter and will hopefully bring promising candidates to the Derby County Academy at Moor Farm and hopefully on to play in the first team.

A highly rated talent scout and youth development officer is vital for Derby County to bring through talented youngsters, saving money by not having to pay out huge transfer fees, or raising the skill level of young players who may then be sold on.

Derby County have said that Kevin Thelwell will be leaving by mutual consent and has already been approached with a view to another job. Speculation is that he may well team up with Billy Davies when the ex-Rams boss returns to football management.

Adam Pearson has said the move to bring in Phil Cannon is the first of a series of steps designed to give the Rams the best possible chance of a quick return to the Premiership. The new re-structuring will enable us to hit the ground running for the start of next season. Pearson also revealed that the Rams will have full time scouts in Spain, Portugal, Australia and Asia in a bid to bring foreign youngsters and talented older players into the Rams squad...
