Nigel Clough has started the rumour mills turning yet again by admitting he is looking for a replacement for Jason Shackell if the giant central defender is sold this summer.
Bids believed to be over £1m have already been received and rejected by the Rams by at least three Championship and Premiership clubs. The cautionary search for a replacement seems almost certainly the Rams are expecting an improved offer for Shackell, and as departing CEO, Tom Glick has previously stated, “everyone in the Derby County squad has their price and all offers will be looked at”.
The Rams would be severely depleted in the central defensive role should they receive an acceptable offer for Shackell. Shaun Barker is already out for the season with severe damage to his knee, sustained during the Rams home game with Nottingham Forest last season...
