Rams squad to be pruned to 24 players

The Rams via Chairman of football, Adam Pearson have stated that they intend to bring the number of senior professionals at the club down to 24. At present Derby County have 32 senior players in their squad which Adam Pearson states is "Far too many".

Paul Jewell has indicated that he would ideally like to start the season with 24 players, which he feels would be the right amount to mount a challenge in the Championship this season.

Players are currently enjoying a five day training camp in Holland but several players have not travelled with the squad and it is these that are thought to be those surplus to requirements. Mo Camara is one that hasn't travelled with the squad and is expected to be told he must find a new club, that also goes for Andy Todd.

Adam Pearson has said at least six players currently on the books will not be at Derby County next season, these possibly include, Stephen Pearson, Stephen Bywater, Gary Teale, Lewin Nyatanga, Dean Leacock and Benny Feilhaber. The Rams are prepared to take a substantial loss on several of those players in order to reduce the wage bill and players within the squad.

Pearson has also indicated that Derby are still searching for a top class striker and a central midfield player, who they hope to attract before the close of the transfer window at the end of August...
