Paul Jewell thinks the reserves are counter productive so will play selected friendly games next season instead
Derby County may pull out of the reserve league and play behind closed doors friendly games next season.

The Rams pulled out of the reserve league during the 2005-06 season and the reason then was said to be financial but now Paul Jewell have said that he thinks more could be learned and achieved by playing friendly matches with local sides in the midlands.

Jewell went on to say he thought that Derby County were just fulfilling matches and making up the numbers in the reserve league as they are currently bottom of the league and have experienced some heavy defeats during the season.

Reserve team football is a requirement when a side is in the Premiership but not required when a side is relegated, so Jewell will take the opportunity to pick his matches and hopefully give the squad some confidence and to learn their trade in a more relaxed type of game.
