The scoring was started by trialist Giorgios Theodoridis. He forced in a rebound from a powerful Steve Howard header that hit the bar. Rob Earnshaw was next to score just eight minutes later.
The game was effectively over at half time with the Rams leading 2-0 but Steve Howard popped up just after the re-start to make it 3-0 to Derby.
Lee Camp was making himself noticed to the Rams management with a couple of top class saves . Former Rams keeper Martin Taylor was among the Burton Albion squad.
