Stars and Stripes to fly over Pride Park

Derby County are said to be contemplating selling a 40% share of the club to an American consortium for an estimated £55m.

Chairman Peter Gadsby has never made a secret that improvements that have been planned for the ground and surrounding area of Pride Park will have to be financed by the private sector.

ARTISTS IMPRESSIONS OF THE RE-DEVELOPMENT
The proposed re-development of the immediate areas around the ground was said to include a Hotel and a shopping mall, which would come to a total of £20m. Added to this the Rams are hoping to improve the capacity of the Pride Park Stadium to around the 40,000 mark by adding another tier to certain parts of the ground, this will again demand a quite considerable in-put of cash.

The Rams won a cash purse of some £60m over three years by winning the 2006-07 play-off Final at Wembley but much of this has gone on repayments and strengthening of the squad, so a cash injection of £55m would seem to be a tempting offer.

Peter Gadsby and his directors would still have over all control of the club with their 60% share holding and hopefully these local people would ensure that the Americans only did what was right for Derby County Football club.

We wait to see if these rumours are true but it is expected to happen within the next two months, leaving ample time for and further strengthening of the Rams squad once the January transfer window opens.
