MATCHDAY BUCKET COLLECTION FOR DISASTER FUND
The Rams are calling on supporters to part with a pound to raise funds for
the region of South Asia devastated by an earthquake and tsunami.
The club has teamed up with firefighters from Ascot Drive Fire Station's
White Watch with the aim of raising thousands to aid the disaster-hit area,
where it is estimated up to 100,000 lives may have been lost.
White Watch have already raised £6,000 with collections in Derby city centre
and will be out with the buckets again at Pride Park Stadium before George
Burley's side take on Cardiff City on New Year's Day (kick-off 12 noon).
Derby County club secretary Marian McMinn said: "What has happened out in
Asia has been absolutely shocking and I'm glad that as a club we have been
able to do this to help out in some small way.
"If everyone who attends the game was to contribute a pound we would raise
thousands to add to the disaster fund."
Firefighter Dean Gazzard, who is based at Ascot Drive, added: "It's great
that Derby County have allowed us to hold a collection at Pride Park
Stadium.
"I'm sure that all of the supporters have been as shocked by what has
happened as we have and will give any spare change they have to help
re-build the region and provide aid for those families who have been left
with little or nothing."
