Ray Young was born in Derby on the 14th March 1934.

In a career that spanned 16 years his only major club was Derby County. He first joined the Rams as a junior, prior to signing professionally when he reached 17 in 1951.
Ray had a promising junior career before turning professional and played for England boys against Scotland boys in 1949.
Young was tipped by many for stardom but after his debut for Derby County against Doncaster in 1954, young failed to make the centre half position his own until later in his career. However this didn't stop Raymond from making 268 appearances for the Rams over his 16-year stay at the Baseball Ground.
After his career with the Rams Ray stayed in local football. He joined Heanor Town in 1966 before moving on a year later to Burton Albion.
At 68 Raymond can still be seen cheering on the Rams at Pride Park and long may he do so.
