Burnley lifted themselves five places and to within seven points of the play-offs for the Premiership with a straightforward win against a Derby side including Italian striker Fabrizio Ravanelli for the first time in six months.
The 34-year-old veteran failed to have much impact as Derby were beaten thanks to first-half goals from Ian Moore and Gareth Taylor.
Burnley could count on the defensive generosity of their opponents for the ease in which they slid in to a match-winning advantage.
Moore had the simplest of tasks, stroking the ball into an empty net from 12 yards in the seventh minute, after a shot from Alan Moore had been half saved by Lee Grant.
There wasn't a Derby defender in sight when Taylor got on the end of a cross from Tony Grant to head home his tenth goal of the season at the far post.
Derby thought they should have had a penalty soon after when Paul Cook appeared to handle on the line to keep out a header from Luciano Zavagno, but their appeals were waved aside.
Strangely, Burnley went into their shell in the second half to give Derby an attacking invitation but the visitors posed little threat.
Lee Morris huffed and puffed alongside Ravanelli, who despite plenty of possession and some good touches, didn't manage a single attempt at goal.
Burnley threatened only occasionally, but Ian Moore should have put the game beyond doubt when, after bursting clear and sprinting a full 50 yards, he could do no better than strike a shot straight at Lee Grant.
A successful afternoon for Burnley and manager Stan Ternent can still harbour hopes of making the play offs.
