Darren Powell endured an evening he will want to forget as he was sent off in stoppage time as Derby and Palace shared the spoils at Selhurst Park.
Danny Butterfield fired Palace in front in the 45th minute but Powell's own goal provided the Rams with a point they deserved.
A poor first half saw Palace enjoying the majority of possession but the better chances fell to Derby.
Firstly Lee Morris missed a chance by firing wide of the target and on the half-hour Alves Candido Costa shot straight at Cedric Berthelin.
The Eagles lacked penetration until Butterfield broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time. A quickly taken corner allowed Michael Hughes to float over a dangerous cross which Andy Oakes could only palm out to Butterfield.
The Palace midfielder struck low and hard to open up a one-goal lead for the hosts.
Straight after the break Costa was put clean through but placed his shot within Berthelin's reach who made a desperate stop with his outstretched right leg.
Dougie Freedman fired wide for Palace but Derby were coming more into the game.
Their pressure paid off on 73 minutes after Luciano Zavagno made tremendous ground down the left flank and his cross bounced badly to Powell who deflected the ball past his own keeper.
The Eagles should have clinched the points in the dying minutes when substitute Ben Watson set up Wayne Routledge who blazed over the bar with only the keeper to beat.
Watson did the same just a matter of seconds later and in stoppage time Freedman hit the post. Then seconds before the final whistle Powell received his second yellow card for a bad tackle.
