QPR were the only team in the league with a 100% record coming into this game and even the most dedicated Rams fan could not see the Rams taking any points from this fixture. Derby were again ravaged by injuries and were without a recognised striker in their starting eleven.
The Rams were not at all phased by their opponents and the fact that they had not beaten QPR at home since 1990, when a 2-0 win saw the Rams reach seventh place in the First division (now Premiership). Despite a scare in the fourth minute Derby took control of the game and were rewarded just before the interval as Kris Commons put away a cross from Dean Moxey to take the rams 1-0 up at the interval.
It was expected that QPR would try to force the issue after the break but it was Derby who looked like the Championship leaders and took a two goal lead at the hour mark. James Bailey opening his Derby County account after Tomasz Cywka surged into the opponents box. Baileys low shot tucking nicely into the bottom corner of the Rangers goal.
Derby fans at this point were wondering why they needed a new striker and Neil Warnock had a hissy fit on the touch line and was duly spoken to by the referee for his animated actions.
The Rams looked in total control and it was a formality to run out time and collect the three points. QPR however had a 'never say die' mentality and a goal from
Agyemang,in the first minute of a generous five minutes of time added on, looked like just a consolation. Derby however pressed the self destruct button for the umpteenth time over the last season and a bit and Jon Mackie beat two rams defenders with a spin in the box before firing low past Stephen Bywater. The travelling Rangers fans couldn't believe their luck and maintain their unbeaten run this season. Derby were left kicking themselves after seeing two point vanish over the horizon...
