Derby took another decisive step towards Championship safety at the expense of a Burnley side who slumped to their 10th defeat in 14 matches.

The damage was done in the first half when Derby scored three times to inflict another defeat on the side they knocked out of the FA Cup in January.

Since then Burnley have scored only two goals in nine games and they hardly troubled goalkeeper Lee Camp who was not forced into a save until the closing minutes.

It was a different story for Brian Jensen who was beaten three times - twice by free-kicks from Spaniard Inigo Idiakez, while midfield partner Giles Barnes also caused Burnley huge problems.

Derby's latest loan signing Michael McIndoe helped set up the first goal with a cross to the back post that was headed down by Kevin Lisbie for Tommy Smith to roll in his sixth of the season.

McIndoe showed some neat touches on his debut and it was the running of Barnes that took the eye in a first half that got better and better for the home side.

Burnley never recovered from that opening goal and Frank Sinclair was yellow carded before Derby increased their lead on the half hour.

Idiakez did not get real power behind his 20-yard free-kick but it beat the defensive wall packed in front of Jensen to find the net.

It was a poor goal to concede and there was another inquest in the defence four minutes later when Derby ended the match as a contest.

Idiakez was presented with another free-kick and this time he struck the crossbar leaving Jensen scrabbling frantically to get back as Darren Moore headed the rebound into the net.

Two more Burnley players were yellow carded before half-time and the second 45 minutes was a non event as Derby coasted to a second consecutive home victory.
