Millwall shot eight places up the league with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Derby County.
After a perfectly observed minutes silence for the recently deceased Brian Clough the home side got off the perfect start.
Millwall were looking for a better performance from the one that saw them lose 2-0 to Watford at the weekend and a clumsy tackle by Michael Johnson on Paul Ifill gave them the opportunity.
Dennis Wise fired the home side in front with a clever free-kick from the right-hand corner of the box that left Lee Camp in the Derby goal with no chance.
Predictably the goal allowed the home-side to settle into their rhythm quickly and they continued to press the visitors.
The under-pressure keeper made up for his early mistake by making an assured stop from Barry Cogan just minutes later when the winger burst clear of the Derby defence and shot from just inside the box.
The visitors huffed and puffed as they tried to get themselves back into the game but their efforts involved more perspiration than inspiration as they were denied space by Millwall whenever they were in possession.
Indigo Idiakez had the visitors first real chance midway through the half when Marco Reich's cross found him with a yard of space just yards from the goal, but he flashed at the volley and the ball flew harmlessly past the far post.
Millwall dominated the game and Wise was again in the thick of the action when he squared up to Derby striker Junior accusing him of elbowing Matt Lawrence ten minutes before the break.
As the players went off for half-time Junior was again on the floor after he and Lawrence squared up near the tunnel and the officials stepped in and separated both sets of players.
Junior didn't appear for a second half that exploded into action just like first with Josh Simpson scoring his first goal for the club with a well struck shot into the far corner from the corner of the goal.
But his celebrations were cut short when Reich pulled one back for Derby from the re-start firing the ball through Graham Stack and into the back of the net with a powerful left-foot shot.
The Rams ended the game with ten men when Vincent was shown his second yellow after pulling Cogan to the floor in the centre circle.
As Derby went in search of the equaliser they threw everything, including keeper Camp, at the Millwall goal.
The plan almost backfired as Ifill broke with the ball, but his shot under pressure from the halfway line was miles off target.
Ifill it was though who rounded off the win with a raking 20-yard drive with the last kick of the game.
